Who’d a thought they’d make a movie of an old series in Japan!!
On cable, IFC airs the Zatoichi series on weekends. It’s a fun but formulaic series. I hope they release this movie somehow on this side of the ocean!
Have you ever seen any of the old Zatoichi (Blind Swordsman) series?
I caught this trailer in May when my girlfriend came back from Cannes with a bunch of stuff. It looks fun and a decidedly Kitano take on the blind swordsman legend.
Zatoichi films will seem redundant if watched weekly. Try once a month or every few months and it won’t ware so thin. In the days before video that’s how the formula could run its course. Think TORA SAN and you’ve got it.
Aside from Kitano’s ZATO ICHI, I look forward to Kitano and Takeshi Miike’s upcoming chambara-eiga that was announced a few weeks ago..
