Panasonic has another crazy gadget. The D-Snap

It's a tiny, Digital Still Camera, Movie Camrea, Movie player, Music Player thingy. There's also a matching mini printer for it. It's only 640x480 and does not support MP3 playback but instead it's own format. The movies are compressed in MPEG4.

I stopped by Sakuraya today and saw that Sony is finally selling an MP3 CD Walkman. It's about time. So far until now all MP3 CD players have mostly been by no−name companies. Most other MP3 players require memory sticks or memory cards which, while they can be re−loaded (pain in the ass) are expensive.

Through my friend Jason I found out Sony recently announced a way cool looking new Palm. It's got a built in keyboard on the inside cover so it's basically the same size as a regular palm even with the keyboard AND it's got a much larger screen. The writing area on most Palms is not a screen, on this one it is making the resolution 320x480. That's significantly more than most CE based Pocket PCs at 240x320.

I don't think you can do this in the states but here in Japan, now, when you get something delivered to you (think UPS/FedEx) you can have them e−mail your cell phone. Unlike the states, cell phone e−mail is very popular here. Of course it helps that the phones have larger displays and better input systems.

Anyway, why would you want them to do that? Because, they will tell you, within a 2 hours time frame, what time they are going to deliver the package and if you are not going to be there you can go to their webpage from your cell phone and tell them when you will be their and they will re−schedule the delivery. Pretty cool!

Sony's newest portable MD player, the N1, has a USB connector and software to finally allow you to upload music directly to the player. Specifically you can upload MP3, WMA and ATRAC3 (sony's format). I expect the software converts the music to MD format but you never know. Here's a list of other Net MD compatible sony stuff.

Sony is at it again. This time they are releasing a DVD walkman. Similar to any of the portable DVD players except the screen is detached so you put the DVD player in your backpack or strap it to your belt and then hold the screen in your hand. I'm guessing this is something that would be more desirable in a train/bus based country like Japan so you can watch your favorite DVDs during your 1 hour commute every morning.

Sony is the bomb when it comes to gadgets. The latest gadget I want for no good reason is this super small video camera. Scroll down this page for an idea of how small it is.

Oh boy, well I just found out about the new Sony DSC-F707. That's the upgrade of the DSC-F505 which I currently have. The new one comes out October 4th. Even though I've been telling myself I want a smaller camera to carry around most of the time I can't quite get myself to give up 5x optical zoom. This new camera is about the same size which I could argue I'm used to and it looks pretty sweet. Feel free to buy it for me 😃.

It was only a matter of time but both Flash and Flashes are available for cell phones now.

For the Camera built into most of the current J−Phone cell phones you can now buy a flash attachment. That's pretty cool.

This gadget is not just an MP3 player but you can also watch TV, listen to the radio and view jpegs from your smartmedia card.
