I'm not sure what the point is but Sony is about to release a double density CD-R/CD-RW burner. 1.3gig on a CD. It appears you need special Double Density CD−Rs but the price appears alot lower than DVD−RAM although really I haven't been following the price of DVD−RAM.

The problem is of course that nobody could read your DDCDs on their SDCD drives.
