Wells Fargo is AWFUL!!!

This page is closed for comments. If you want to comment about your Wells Fargo experiences please follow this link. Do I still think Wells Fargo sucks? Yes, more than ever. Especially given some of the responses from people claiming to work for them here. But that said, I’m tired of being reminded of this episode. Please take your comments here and hopefully something will come of them.

Wells Fargo Bank: In my opinion they must be the Single WORST BANK IN THE WORLD!!!!

Please please please if you are using Wells Fargo.  Please switch banks.  Do not reward this bank with your patronage.  You’re only helping an evil empire.  Please get out now.

I’ve been with Wells Fargo bank for 9 years now and I can safely say that nobody in their right mind would bank with them.  They are an atrocious bank.  Completely and utterly incompetent.  I don’t understand how they’ve gotten to the position they are in being this bad.  It seems nearly impossible to contemplate.

The following is not the only thing that has happened to me but it is the most recent and so the most clear in my mind.

In August 2000 I decide I’m going to move back to Japan.  Knowing how complicated it is to get money to a Japan (as I’ve lived here before) I call Wells Fargo 24hr hotline and ask them about setting something up for transferring money to Japan.

They say the (1) I can setup something called an "International Re-occurring Wire Transfer" but that (2) they have no idea how to set that up as they, at the hotline center, do not have those forms and so I need to go into a branch.  Not only that but I HAVE TO DO IT AT A BRANCH.  I can not be sent the forms instead and just do it through mail.

So, a couple of weeks later I go into the Brentwood branch (closest to my apartment at the time) and get the forms.  The guy at the bank gives me 3 forms. I take them home and attempt to fill them out but of course there are many banking terms I am unfamiliar with like ABA/routing number etc so I end up going into a branch and asking.  I’m told I need the branch name, address, account number and routing number / ABA number.

So I go home and call the bank in Japan and ask for that info (actually, I ask a Japanese friend to do it for me).  She says they say they don’t know anything about ABA numbers or routing numbers

So I go back to the branch and I ask and then BEG for an example of a Japanese ABA/routing number so that when I call my bank in Japan I can explain what I’m looking for.  For example if I told you I need a number that looked like this 542-124-6541 you’d probably know just by looking at it that it’s a phone number.  51235 is a zip code as is 65343-1236.  512-12-4552 is a SS# and 6431 1234 6423 9632 is a credit card #.  The bank is absolutely no help.  The claim they do transfers to Japan often but that they will not even tell me the number of digits as in XXX-XXX-XXX.  I do find out one useful piece of information.  They claim I don’t really need this number.  It just might take a few extra days without it.

So I go back home and ask another Japanese friend to call the bank in Japan.  I get the same answer, there is no ABA/routing #.  Of course like an idiot I believe Wells Fargo Bank instead of my friend and assume that I didn’t know how to communicate what I meant to her so she could explain it to the bank in Japan.

So, okay, I decide if they they don’t really need this number I’ll just fill out the forms without it.  So what if it takes an extra few days.  So, I go to the Santa Monica branch since I’m familiar with it.  It was the closest bank to my old job.  I get in line for the tellers and I ask for help with these forms for "Re-occurring international wire transfers" The teller has no clue and after fumbling around for a couple of minutes gets somebody with more experience.  That person fumbles around some more, calls somebody and finally hands me 4 forms (2 of which are different than the 3 forms I already have) and she hands me a small note with a phone number and says here are all the forms, and here’s the number to call if you have any question.

So, I sit down in the lobby to fill out the forms.  I call the number.  It’s the 24hr hotline number.  I get the same answer I got before.  The hotline people have no clue about those forms.  They don’t even have copies they could look at if they wanted to.  So now I’m getting pissed off.  As I’m on my cell phone and I’m in the lobby of the bank I grab the nearest bank person, and hand them the cell phone and tell them to sort it out.  Who the F*CK is supposed to deal with this because the branch just told me to call this number and the people at this number are telling me to talk to the branch.

The guy I gave the phone to tells that guy on the phone that he’s a branch manager, he knows what to do and he’ll take care of it.

So I wait in the lobby for over an hour while he deals with the 3 people that were in front of me.  Finally it’s my turn.  I sit down at his desk.  He hands me 3 bank forms, one of which is different still then the 7 forms I’ve already been handed.  He also pulls out somebody else’s forms and says copy these forms and just change parts that you need to change.  I do that.  He double checks it, says every thing is great and gives me a new number to call which he says is the number I’ll call when I need to make a transfer.  I thank him and leave

So, 3 weeks later I’m in Japan and I need money ASAP.  You are only allowed to take $10000 out of the U.S.  More than that and it is considered that you are doing something fishy.  Renting an apartment in Japan generally costs 6 months rent.  First month’s rent, 2 months deposit, 2 months key money, 1 month realtor fee.  For a $1200 apartment that’s $7200.00 + more for things like manager’s fee, insurance etc.  I brought $9800 with me to Japan but of course I had things I needed to pay for and so I’m down to $7000.00   So, I call that number.  I’m told that they have no paperwork to speak of about me.  WHAT!!!!!!!  They double-check but no, they have no paperwork and they say I should go into a branch and fill out new forms.  Of course I explain to them that I’m in Japan now.  I can’t just pop over to a branch.  Well, they end up giving me the number for the Santa Monica branch.

I call.  I don’t know the branch manager’s name but I do know what he looked like and where he sits.  They figure out who it is but he’s out until Monday (it’s Thursday).

So I call back Monday.  He remembers me and says he’ll check into it and call me back.  I explain I’m in Japan and it’s 4am. He says to call him back tomorrow morning and he’ll have it all figured out.

I call back the next morning, he’s in a meeting.  He doesn’t get out until 10am (that’s 2am here in Japan).  Note that these calls aren’t cheap.  I’m living in a motel trying to rent an apartment.

He says he doesn’t know what happened.  He sent in the forms and he has no idea where they went.  The best he can do is send me new forms.  Of course that will take a week or 2 and then more time to send them back.   I don’t know what else to do so I say okay, hoping that even if I figure out a way around this it will at least be fixed in the future.  Note that as I write this (2 months later) those forms HAVE STILL NOT SHOWN UP!!!!!

That’s not the end of it.  First a more minor one.

In order to get a student visa (a visa is permission from Japan to live in Japan for a specific purpose), I need certain things.  One thing I need which wasn’t clear before I came here is I need a "balance statement signed by a bank manager" showing that I have enough money to live in Japan without a real job for as long as I plan to be here.

I call Wells Fargo and ask for one.  It took a while to get them to do it but eventually I got a supervisor on the 24hr hotline to claim she can take care of it.  10 days later it has not shown up and I’m quickly running out of time.  There’s a deadline to apply for a student visa.&n
bsp; Miss it and you have to wait another 3 months to get one.

So I call again and explain what I need.  They tell me that they, the 24hr hotline people, can’t do it but that I can call some special department that can handle it.  I call that department.  They are closed.  I call the next day when they are open and am told by that department that they have nothing to do with what I need.  Their department deals with businesses.  They tell me to call the 24hr hotline again and ask for something specific.  I’ve since forgotten the term but they claim if I say that term, something like "official account history" or something like that they’ll get it right this time.

So I call the 24hr hotline again.  I use that term.  They don’t get it.  After more run around I get a supervisor again and finally she gets it and after much begging she sends the correct forms. Thank goodness.

More:

So the next problem,  Wells Fargo decides to change my routing number in mid November.  I don’t think about it much until early December.  I’m told by my accountant that I need to pay a certain amount of money in taxes before December 31st or I’ll be fined $8000.00 in late fees.  Yes, that’s 8 grand.  Pretty important that I get that money in.

So, I’m about to send in a 540ES and a 1040ES until I think, "hey wait a minute, if they changed my routing number that means that the checks I have are no good anymore."  I call the 24hr hotline to verify that and I’m correct.  WELLS FARGO HAS ARBITRARILY INVALIDATED ALL MY CHECKS!!!  What the F*CK is wrong with them!!!  You’d think that common sense would suggest that if you are going to invalidate somebody’s checks you’d have to issue them new ones BEFORE you invalidate their old ones.  It almost seems like there might even be a law against this.  Anybody using checks on a regular basis could be really screwed!!!

I ask them about new checks and of course they take a couple of weeks and getting them to Japan is another story all together.  I ask about emergency checks and they say "Oh, just pop down to a local branch and…"  I’m in JAPAN!!!!!   So, the best they can do is put a rush order on the checks.   My account is currently registered to my sister’s address and the guy on the phone says the checks will be there within 5 business days.  I have him read my address.  It’s WRONG!!!  Even though I called Wells Fargo and updated my address with them, which can be verified since the statements have been being delivered to my sister, they didn’t update it here.  Fortunately I asked him to check it and he claims to have fixed it just before he put in the order.   This is Dec 12th.

Dec 22nd comes around and my sister has not received any checks yet.  So I call the 24 hour hotline again.  After digging around for a while I’m told the checks are at the Newport Beach branch and nobody can explain to me why they went there.  My sister lives an hour away (when there’s no traffic) from Newport Beach.  They give me the phone number to the branch.  I call the branch and the lady there offers to send them to my sister.  Of course at this point I don’t trust Wells Fargo to be able to do anything correctly so I ask if I can have a friend that’s close by come pick them up.  She says that would be okay and asks for my friend’s name.   I ask my friend John who works 2 minutes from there to go get the checks.  He got’em.  Thank goodness.  UUUUGGGHHHH!!!!!

It’s not over.

So now I’m running out of money again here in Japan and it’s time to transfer more money.  Before I left for Japan I looked into opening an account at Citibank because Citibank has a special department, Citibank PBOE (Personal Banking for Overseas Employees)  That can and does regularly handle transferring money to foreign accounts for people like me.  The only bad thing about those accounts (so far) is that they cost $22 a month.  ($15 if you keep a $5K balance)  Of course Wells Fargo said I could set up the same thing with them but we see how well they did that.  But, incase I wanted to switch to Citibank I asked Wells Fargo before I left for Japan about domestic transfers and was told no problem as long as the same name is on both accounts.

So, now it’s 12/30 and I want to get some more money over here.  I’ll probably need it by the end of January.  I call Wells Fargo 24hr again thinking everything is going to be fine.  Especially since I’ve had no problems transferring money from E-Trade Broker AND E-Trade Bank over the phone and because Wells Fargo told me it would be fine.  NOPE!!!  Wells Fargo will not do wire transfers over the phone period.  You have to go into a branch!!!!  The only kind of transfer Wells Fargo will do is from one Wells Fargo account to another!!!  UUUUGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

Half an hour on the phone trying to get Wells Fargo to take some responsibility for these problems and deal with it but they won’t budge.

I really don’t get how they stay in business.  I’m not a lawyer but it seems to me that I should be able to hold them liable for both the costs getting money here because they lost my "Re-occurring International Wire Transfer" forms.  THEY LOST THEM.  THEIR MISTAKE.  THERE RESPONSIBILITY.  Also the whole check issue.  Randomly invalidating all my checks.  THEIR ACTION.  THEIR RESPONSIBILITY.   If I do miss the deadline for my taxes (we’ll see, it’s Dec 30th and no record of the checks having been cashed.)  If I do get penalized I will talk to lawyers about recovering the penalty from Wells Fargo.

On top of that they charge me $20.50 a month!!!!  They charge me $10.50 a month just to have my account.  $2 a month to return my checks.  $3 a month called a "Quicken Online Monthly Charge" and $5 a month called "Quicken Bill Payment"

If I’m paying to have my checks returned and I’m paying for online bill payment, what’s the $10.50 a month for? What service do I get for that.  Clearly they have not provided me with any service.  I wonder if there’s any legal issues there? I.e., service paid for but service NOT received.

Note: this is far from the first time I’ve had problems with them.  The reason I’ve kept with them is mostly because it’s a pain in the butt for me to switch banks.  I use electronic payment though the internet using Quicken (as I have been for 9 years now) and switching banks would mean going without that for a month possibly as well as ATM card issues etc.  This is it though.  I’m switching.  I can’t deal with it anymore.  They are more then useless and they are actually causing REAL problems for me.  Problems that cost ME money and time to fix.  Problems that force me to involve and inconvenience family and friends to get fixed.

I remember about 7 years ago being pissed off enough to want to switch.  That wasn’t the only time either. I actually stormed out of a branch and spent the rest of the day interviewing banks.  At the time the best bank appeared to be Fidelity Federal.  It’s was a smaller bank though and with few branches and a month after that episode I moved to the San Francisco area and so I didn’t end up switching at that time.

Now I just can’t take it anymore.  Anybody know a bank that works?  Although I’ll be using the Citibank PBOE for transfers and stuff they don’t have all the features I want and they are expensive so I’m still looking for another bank for my main bank.

U U U U U U G G G G G G G G H H H H H H H H H H ! ! ! ! !

Please please please if you are using Wells Fargo.  Please switch banks.  Do not reward this bank with your patronage
.  You’re only helping an evil empire.  Please get out now.

    WF Customer Service Sucks

This one time I went to Atlanta, GA for vacation and there was no Wells banks within 100 miles from my location. So I was getting hit with third party ATM fees left and right, one from the third party ATM and the second from WF ($2.00 T/P ATM Fee) and this totaled ranged from $3 to $5 every ATM transaction. A couple days before I left GA. I called the 24hr hotline to talk to a customer service rep.

I asked if they can wave some of the ATM fees since I’m in a state that doesn’t have any Wells banks within 100 miles from where I’m staying. The rep told me no,  I could of gone to places and got cash back. I had mentioned to the rep that’s too much of a inconvenience to me because this is the first time I’ve traveled to this state and I don’t know what places offered cash back and most gas stations don’e even offer cash back and all the places I was going too didn’t offer cash back. After I said that, the rep had the nerve to tell me, well next time you go on vaction make sure to travel to a place that has Wells Fargo banks. The next thing I did…

    I closed my accounts.

    F@#K Wells Fargo

    Behind On My Mortgage

I got behind on my Wells Fargo Home Mortgage because of medical bills.  I am a 100% Disabled 25 Years Military Combat Veteran with Brain Cancer. V.A. does not pay all costs and co-pays, and nothing for some procedures. Their Loss Mitigaton Department has been stalling me for over three months on my request for a loan modification. They are very efficient at destroying my credit and overposted the property on every door, every mailbox, by regular mail, and certified.  Made one tenant nervous and cost me another of 11 years.  Now I gotta do carpet and paint before the rerental. They told me “I am not special and lots of people have health problems.” I have been here for nearly 12 years now.  The default sale is set for February 4, 2009. All of this has my PTSD cranked to the max.  It’s not helping with the cancer and other medical problems either.  I wonder after reading all of these complaints here, if they think I won’t fight if backed into a corner.  That’s a really bad decision on their part.  I have every intention of going postal on WF if they try to take my home.  I am terminal anyway, sooner or later, so I have absolutely nothing to lose.  I figure I can cost them 100′s of millions in lawsuits from victims families.  If they have no consideration or compassion it’s what they need and deserve.  Should cost them 10′s of millions for public relations and damage control as well.  No courtroom scenes for me, it’s a one way mission. All of  my family and relatives are already dead so no problem there.  I pushed all of my friends away years ago for numerous reasons.  All I need is a loan modification and I would be allright.  Not asking WF to lose a nickle on the deal.  Offered them life insurance as collateral.  Not asking, but they could give me the damm house and get off cheaper. Well, they still have a few weeks to do the right thing.  Watch the news between now and February and you’ll know if they did the wrong thing.  Besides, I heard that George W. gave them 25 Billion with a B to help people just like me.  You know, not special. Anyway, I know if you don’t pay, you can’t stay.  99% of what people do is to pay the rent or the mortgage.  Merry Christmas, Happy New Year

    Wells fargo is satan itself

what a bunch of highly educated morons working at wf. I got cancer in 2002, and always had good credit. The 2 years following the cancer surgery I did everything to maintain making payments and doing the right thing. I finally ran out of money and had to claim a ch13 in 2005. wf took over my home loan. I retired and have a loan to pay back out of the 401k or I end up paying income taxes on it. I am refinancing and filled out the paperwork to have my bankruptcy discharged and paid off. I have worked hard to get back to where I was before the cancer. Well, guess who is objecting to the refinancing. Wells fargo, satan himself. Why? They are getting their money. They are nothing but butt wipes. What a miserable company and their treatment of people is pathetic. They are also charging me an extra $600 for the paperwork when they took over the loan. I didn’t ask them to do that, but I have to pay for their 20 minutes of paperwork. I didn’t see any paper work. I hope I beat them to the pearly gates, so I can watch as they drop and burn in hell.

in checking my wells fargo online account this morning I discovered that my platium wellsfargo card had been reduced from 11,800 to 600, I also had 8,000 in my checking and saving accounts. I called and their response was that my credit score had changed a lot and they suggested I pay for their identify theft program, my reply was wait a minute, and I went on line and payed for the scores and credit reports…no change 702 and a 718, so I called back and cancelled my credit card and closed my saving accounts and am in the process of moving my direct deposit and closing out my checking. please! please! do not give wellsfargo any more taxpayer money, they do not tell the truth, there was no change in my credit, reports/score. Now I am out the cost of the credit reports. WHY!

    STUPID :::

First of all, you all are stupid, all of you want something for free. Take ownership of your accounts, Ohhh and just so you know greggman, its called a swift code… you would get a swift code from japan so that you could set up anything electronically through any bank that needed funds sent to that bank over seas. Swift code is a routing number overseas just like an IBAN is used in Europe to send money to country to country in Europe. DUHHHHHHHHHHHH

    WF sucks

Wells Fargo is terrible-Most credit card companies will decline your card if you have reached your limit-not wells fargo-they keep letting you charge -charge and charge so they can keep raking in those 35.00  fees not to mention the 5.00 extra for Continus OD. And their OnLine customer service employees are stupid-branch managers are even worse-the one in Sunnvale is so rude-she treats customers like dirt-she should try getting a real job.If someone out there has an email address for the CEO-CFO for WF-please pass it on.

    Wells Fargo – Garbage League

I recently had a bad experience with Wells Fargo Bank ,

They have a double standard , They do business in their favor to pilfer hard working people out of their money , an example , they posted charges to my account on a Holiday ( Bank was closed ) and charged me for 8 overdrafts in doing so … Since Presidents Day is a national Holiday , If I had a check deposited , pending to be credited to my account , I would certainly have to wait until the following non holiday for this to happen … Since the money was there the following day to cover transactions , they twisted things around to suit them , I just told them to kiss my ass … I am going to a different bank … If you are thinking about banking with Wells Fargo , turn around and , don’t walk , but run in the other direction …

    Greed …

    To whom it may concern ,< ?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I XXXXXX  am herby demanding that my accounts be closed , effective immediately  . The reason that I am taking this action is because of the unacceptable policies that are being utilized at my expense , and I am literally fed up with your ” Greedy ” Business Practices ” . I am also going to file a formal complaint against Wells Fargo Bank . In my banking experiences – over the past thirty years , dealing with many other financial institutions ,  I have never encountered the types of problems with overdraft fees that are constantly reoccurring with my checking account . The practice of your credit /debit posting practices are ” Shady ” at best . An example of this , is posting debits on a holiday ( A Non Banking Business Day ) and not the credits that were pending also , until the next day ,  and your continual overdraft trap . I find this practice to be horrendous and despicable .

Wells Fargo should be ashamed , and should be nominated to the “‘ Hall of Shame ” . I have a question for Wells Fargo ? ” If the money isn’t in the account , Then why aren’t the transactions denied ?” It seems that your computers are programmed to extort money , by dragging it’s heels to notify customers of their  overdraft status until days later , believing that they have a positive balance in their account , according to your current computer account information data  , that they rely on  , continuing to make minor purchases and being fleeced with overdraft charges . ” Is there a human-being monitoring these computers ? ” that is a scary thought . In closing , I know that Wells Fargo does not care , about me , the customer , and that is ok too , if my small business takes off , rest assured that my money will certainly not be deposited with Wells Fargo Bank … I am not the only disgruntled customer of Wells Fargo Bank , here are some other customer complaints from the many disgruntled customers ( too many to list ) whom have left your institution … I also wish upon Wells Fargo – that the fleas of a thousand camels , infest their arm pits !!!  ” Wells Fargo Bank ” one of the carbuncles on the butt of mankind …

    So Many Problems with Wells

In the last 10 years I have banked with Wells, I have been “transferred” so many times to dead lines, been “helped” and then two weeks later, after nothing is fixed, call back to discover there is no record of me ever calling in the first place, and then calling back again to discover the same. The level of anger and frustration I have with and for them is not healthy, and after today, writing another email after two months of trying to get help, I decided I will switch banks, or keep my money in my mattress.

ALSO VERY BAD: W.F. Educational Financial Services

I regrettably chose Wells Fargo as my lender for my Student Loans. In the course of my loans entering re-payment, the associates at Wells Fargo explained that the payment for the loans and the interest would be subsidized into one lump sum payment each month, even though the loans were entering their repayment periods at different times. I took their word for it and then realized a couple months later that my payment amount had not changed. I never checked online about my student loans because I had forsaken Wells Fargo as a personal financial institution and switched to Bank of America who made much more sense, but it turned out the most recent of my loans was 6 months past due. I called, negotiated forbearance (even though it was their stupidity) and requested that my loan payments BE CONSOLIDATED. I emphasize this because in the end I have called their Education Financial Service line 5 times and requested the same thing and it has never been achieved. I still juggle online payments between different student loan accounts, and am just waiting for the interest rates to allow me to take out a consolidation loan from a more functional financial institution like B of A or Chase, to alleviate Wells Fargo of the burden of mucking up my finances any longer!

I’ve read some of your postings.

Just to telly – you guys may hate Wells Fargo.

Have you tried any other banks?

    I have.

Wells Fargo ended up to be much better.

Not all the things they do I like – for example they pay low interest rate on deposits. They also don’t have the best rates on loans.

But they do pretty good job on operations, as compared with others.

    I hope I don’t regret posting this.

Wells Fargo is a great bank! Why would it get so big if it weren’t doing well and helping people, I’ve banked there since I was 1 year old!! You people are Whack!! Wells Fargo is an Awesome bank. True they have large fees, and such like that, but if you manage your accounts right it’s the best place you can be. If you don’t know what you are doing with your money in the banking business, maybe you should stay out of the big leagues!! Just go to your little podunk town credit union where everyone knows everyone and thier dog and you will be fine! The guy who started this page is an idiot!!! He starts out saying that nobody in their right mind would bank at Wells Fargo, yet he banked there for 9 years before finding problems. Obviously he is out of his mind if what he says is true. He had no problems before that time… And who sets up wire transfers to other countries on a regular basis? How is one little teller in a branch in California going to know how a little bank in Japan works, and what numbers you are going to need to set up a transfer there. I know bankers from alot of different banks, and they didn’t go to “Japan banking for Bankers” School! They learned about banks here, ask them to do a transfer between wells fargo accounts and any one of them can do it, because that’s what they are supposed to learn. In any bank, you learn how YOUR bank works, you don’t get hired at Chase bank and learn how Washingtom Mutual works! NO, you learn how Chase works, etc. Of course everyone has had problems. I’ve had problems in every bank and credit union I’ve ever worked with, it’s not because anyone is stupid or incompetent, it’s because every person has an individual life with individual needs! We all want something different. Quit being so biast towards this place or person, and learn how to fix the problem!!!

    Check Card Rewards Annual Fee

I canceled my Wells Fargo Check Card Rewards program two years ago. Today 4/1/09 I see a $25 charge for ‘Check Card Rewards Annual Fee’ on my account. WF removed the fee, explaining that, ‘sorry, it’s been happening a lot to customers, they’re not sure why this happened.’ Wells Fargo is billing their customers’ accounts for bogus fees. I guess they must think no one will notice because it’s only $25.

I had canceled my visa debit card. I then noticed a charge on my account from Audible.com. I checked my account on their website and they had the new visa debit card which I had never given them. I called and they said they did not know how they got it. Two days later they called and told me they have a contract with Visa and other card companies to receive the new card #s of customers who cancel their cards. They actually told me Visa was providing the service to me. I called Wells Fargo who said they do not give out new numbers and do not believe Visa could have. I called Visa and got an office in Panama. When I asked for the phone # for corporate headquarters they said they don’t have phones there. Unbelievable. I canceled that card and told Wells Fargo not to charge anything else on the card, but another unauthorized charge appeared. I called the bank 4 times, got put on hold, hung up on, etc. I then went to the bank and they told me the only thing I could do was call the 1-800 #. At this point I became an evil bitch woman. I called the attorney general’s office and will file complaints about the whole bunch. Audible.com took my account web page down, hmmm, something to hide? I have a check coming into my account on wends. I will be closing my account at Wells Fargo. I am livid.

Wow….what horror stories….I’m on your side Greggman. I’ve been a faithful customer of WF for 14 year…way back when it was Norwest. Anyhow…my story is..I love cash, so for the past ten years everything that I’ve ever purchase was purchased with cash so I have no credit history. Being that I have no credit, it’ll difficult to purchase a car or home…I’m sure everyone knows that, but what I’m trying to get at is that I figured that since I’ve been with WF for 14 years maybe they would approve a credit card for me. I applied and was denied. I’m pretty sure that if I was banking at a small local bank for 14 years with a checking and savings account…and never having any overdraft fees that they would at least start me off with a credit card of 100 dollars or more. I just need to build my credit? I can’t believe that I was denied…I’m gonna leave WF and find me a small bank…At least there, they’d give me a chance after a few years.

    I am in your shoes…..

I think that I could commet on this company all day.  I deposit 6000.00 dollars with them and they lose it for Two days. That is after i gave the check to them personally and a store.  Then I recieved overdrafts that added up to 200.00 dollars, there responce was “The check was not in there”…. After gathering my thoughts for a day, the wells fargo credit card dropped my credit card amount to the balance it was at… Again i called the 800 number which was pretty much a very rude person that said nothing to help… I just called today and trying to close everything to deal with this company… I will spend all of my time trying to tell my friends and family how much of a bad experience i had with this company. Since I have left this company i have taken three friends to different banks and all have had great experiences, with out Wells Fargo… This bank has mad a single person speek out for the rest of my life about all of the bad experiences… At least i can change how people think..

    Holy Cow!

I can not believe how many WF employees are writing in to defend a company that just got sued for refusing to pay overtime to thier employees.Do they pay you by the website? Now since you are explainin yur self explain check resequencing. How is that a favor to me? I certainly didn’t like having 175.00 taken out when I had funds in my account to cover everything except a (check it out) dollar. Justify that one because dude in the corporate office couldn’t he was so befuddled he reversed the charge and oh by the way then the magical computer resequenced my account again instead of one overdraft I magically have 2 plus secondary daily charges.Hmmm. Gee it turns out by way of research not only am I confused but so are thousands and I mean thousands of other customers thats why there are so many class action lawsuits across the nation against WF. I certainly do not blame the lowly teller or bank manager they are just small squeeky wheels in a huge comglamorate and are as quilty of theft as AIG, Fanny Mae and Mac Care to guess who has the largest lobbiest force in Washington? Which lobbiest ” helped” the Obama campaign? I just can’t imagine why the FDIC hasn’t investigated such larceny. Care to guess why Oh come on anomynous girl give it a try convince me and a few thousand folks how wrong we are!

WELLS FARGO IS STEALING MY MONEY AND I WANT TO GRADUATE!!!

My situation at Wells Fargo is causing me such stress and anxiety that I am not sure how I can cope much longer.  I am a senior student about to graduate in May.  I am also dyslexic with a speech impediment so it is difficult to talk over the phone.  WELLS FARGO rejected my college stipend from my University causing my account to overdraw.  I went to the University and was told that Wells Fargo bank would not accept the payment.  The account number and routing numbers were correct.  After six overdraft charges amounting to $210 was charged I realized the cost was half my rent.  Because I did not have enought money in my account after this situation I could not pay my rent.  And the snowball effect began.  The University sent another check which Wells Fargo rejected again.  Then, eight overdraft fees added another $280 in charges which means WELLS FARGO has taken out $490 for overdraft fees which they caused!!!  In desperation I begged my brother to loan me money.  He transferred funds into my account.  Today when I went to the grocery to finally get some food and pay half my rent my card does not work.  I called Wells Fargo and they said there is a MISUSE OF FUNDS block on my account!!  WHAT AM I SUPPOSE TO DO??  I start finals tomorrow and am hungry!  This is an unbelievable situation and I cannot believe it is happening in this country.   IT IS THEFT BY A BANK!!

Wells Fargo is a piece of work. A lady name Patricia who works there took over $3000 out of our business account for no reason and will not return it. We are having to hire an attorney. She keeps saying we have a loan. We don’t. They can’t produce any paper work to that effect but they can zap our bank account. And to top it off they took TARP money so they would have more money to screw us with. I am closing all of my accounts with this bank and filing theft charges against their employee who took our money.

    WF Morgage

I am a disabled vet with a termanally ill wife finale stages of M.S..  I lost  my job when I had to tend to her when she almost died last spring.  Had just bought a secound house with a pool that she needed for PT to prolong her life.  Was planing on remodling it to make it handy cap accesable for her.  Ran into difficulties in gettting the work done and the saveings ran out last Dec. helped by the market crash.  I called the VA and got directions on what to do (as I couldnt make both house payments) and the first step was to get loss mit papers from WF and fill them out and turn them in well it took me 6 weeks to get the papers from them then when I tryed to fax them in they couldnt find the number to the VA loss mit department.  It took 5 days of phone calls hours each day to finaly get it.  Faxed it in I was only one month behind to start with now its 3 months behind.  I got verification that the papers are there.  7 weeks later I get contacted by a VA apraser and he tells me that hes been directed by a Law firm to do a appraisal to start a forecloser on the house.  So I get on the phone find out that they started forecloser a week before with the loss mit package still waiting review.  The VA wanted a quick sale followed by a dead in lieu if it didnt sell as I had 70K equity in the house.  No the VA says WF will not work with them.  WF says they cant stall a forecloser and the VA can’t force them and the law firm says only WF can stall it.  I got the VA to move to just do a Dead in Lieu but it takes 45-60 days but the forcloser takes place in 51 one days.  Oh in the week of frantic calling WF loss mit calls me to initiat a restructure.  Even thought he cover letter explianed there is no way this would work and that the VA wasted a quick sale followed by a dead in lieu.  So I try to get that started after talking to 4 offices they say I have to first get the restructure request out of the computer and that takes 48 hours then I can call back and start the deed in lieu.  So I call back and am told that the Loss m it package is over 48 hours old and I have to resubmit it.

In the end I expect WF will forclose on the house and get about 60% of the value, when the VA would have payed them 100% of the money that was due them.  Its nuts they made the problem by not doing their job stalling till it was to late and even started forcloser when there was mittigation pending.  On one hand I am mad as hell but on the other hand I am glad they will loss money on this house.  In the end they wont though they wiull make the VA pay the loss as they back the morgage.  So in the end WF didnt care they get their money from us the TAX payers.

So un ethical to put a property int forcloser do to their own incopentance.

    WELLS FARGO SUCKS!!!

I was a Wells Fargo Customer in Katy Texas.  The tellers there became friendly with us through the years. I had some kids in the back seat of my car, and the teller started a conversation with me.  The kids told me the teller was making fun of me with her hands low as we spoke.  Then I find out the teller has looked up my business and home on google earth. That freaked me out a bit.  Then I had someone take a deposit to the tellers for me while I waited for my safe deposit box.  As I waited the teller assumed the child was mine and said “your mom makes allot of money, doesn’t she?”  The list of bullshit from this branch bank goes on an on. The thing that pisses me off the most is although I will have about $8000 in the bank, if one account goes low they dont’ cover the check and charge me those absolutely ridiculous bank fees.  I am done with them, with the incompetence, and lackadasical attitudes and lack of professionalism and ripping me off on the fing bank charges.

I opened my own business 1 year ago.  I had no idea how to set up merchant services and a “friend” in my neighborhood said I could do it with his sister who worked for WF.  So I did.  A year into the business I have been screwed over and over again by WF through the information they DIDN’T tell me when I signed up with them.  I just called to cancel my merchant services with them and was told I needed to give them $500 before they would cancel me.  What the *^#@!  NO one said a word about that when I started or I would have NEVER gotten myself into business with them.  But they said “read your contract”.  So I did.  But I needed a magnifying glass to see it!  I have a small company, and that’s the profit I make in a week.  Those sticking bas*#^d’s get you no matter what.  I started figuring out the sub charges I was getting and was pay over 8% on credit card charges, most of which were never disclosed to me.  Over the last year they have been rude over the phone, completely unhelpful and stupid in the bank itself and the worst customer service I have ever run into.  If I did my business like they do, I wouldn’t last a month.  WAIT!  I may not last anyway because they are taking all my money.  Pigs.

    Wells fargo Discriminats!

I’ve had a account with Wells Fargo around 10 years now- this happened on Idaho Street here in Elko,nevada,May,16,2009 between 10:30 and 11a.m. they had called the day before about standing on the street corner trying to get petions signed gor HR 1207 & HR450,she was told tht she could not.

the next day went into Wells Fargo & asked what they were doing as a large “Mexican consultant” sign was on the sidewalk in from of their bank. The manager,KENNTH BRAATEN,BRANCH MANAGER,405 IDAHO ST.-ELKO,NEV told her that it was a community Service”, so thats Wells Fargo brown nosers/suck ups to Mexicans that take our jobs while our family s go hungry!!!by this time the manager had worked his way to the customers side of the counter,”if you don’t like it,Iwill gladly help you close your accounts”" Talk about discrimination!! What a great law-suit!!! esp. since its all on camera!!He tried to grab her arm,she told him she would leave his bank but not to touch her. I knotice that there is no way to contact the CEO or the President of Wells Fargo..I’ll be closing out my accounts as will many others- Wells Fargo one bank has already gone down here in our little town, want me to predict the future for you??? she was also told by this (joke) bank manager “that he is married to a Hispanic” what does tht have to do with anything,I’m German & Irish, now doesn’t that impress you???

    Yeah…money hungry grubbers…

So.. I bank with a small credit union and, have for almost eleven years now.  I am taking a trip to London..one for which, I have been wanting to take for almost ten years now… and, called my CU to see if they did currency exchanges.  They siad they did but, because somebody was ill, they failed to get the currency ordered and, it ended up costing me about seventy dollars.  So.. I called a WF branch to see if they sold currency and, they said they did.  They said there would be a fee of five dollars as I do not have an account with them.  Fine.  No problem.  Well, each day I wait, the price of currency rises and yesterday, it rose almost five cents so, I decided to just purchase at the Wells Fargo branch nearest my home.  I checked the currency conversion on the internet, with no less than seven different sites and the exchange rate was 1USD to 1.5748 GBP.  I figured that’s the rate I’d get.  Nope!!  I went and did the exchange and, of course, the teller attempted to get me to open a new account there and, after the run around I’d just had with my CU, I was considering it.  I paid $850 and got 525 british pounds.  It didn’t sound quite right to me but, I was miffed and tired of running around trying to get this done.  So, I go home and check and, sure enough, the exchange rate, is still 1USD to !.5748 GBP.  So I plug all my information in, and find that I’ve been shorted almost $25.  I look closer at my receipt, and find they’ve charged me an exchange rate of 1.62GBP to 1USD.  Why the difference, based on what all the markets I’ve looked up are saying?  So.. I call.. nobody.. and I mean NOBODY at the branch, could tell me, why they charged me more than the going rate.  Hmmm..  makes me think that, maybe, I should just stick with my CU… and that the five dollar fee, is really a five dollar fee plus, an additional five cents on each and every dollar…  IF that’s the case, say so up front.  If you’re making money off the exchange and, I as a consumer who is unversed in such matters don’t know that, well, then, it makes me think I’ve just gotten royally screwed… and that the five dollar fee, was really a thirty dollar fee…  Thank goodness I didn’t buy more… else I be screwed over, moreso than I already was. Bank at Wells Fargo… Eh.. no thanks…

    Troubled in Indiana

I will try to be brief. I am having some financial difficulties and I have been trying to get my account with wfb current here recently. Because I have made arrangements before, this company is refusing to work with me anymore. I have spoken with 4 of their representatives in the last 24 hours and it apprears as though it is their practice to be rude, condescending, belittling, mean and hostile. One suggested that I choose not to pay my power bill and pay them instead. Just a few moments ago they stated that they knew it would cause me embarassment, but that they were going to call all of my references and inform them about my difficulties and I guess ask them if they can pay?! I am very disapponted in their business practices. Even when I called to complain about how I was treated, the supervisor picked up where the other left off. I would think that for most companies in these times, someone trying to catch up on their payments with their buisness would be better than no buisness at all. I will try to transfer this loan to another banking institution ASAP!!!

    Wellsfargo is a dishonest bank!!!

I have been a Wellsfargo customer for years and am switching this afternoon.  My past year has been nothing but a string of “computing errors” dipshit/unhelpful/unknowledgable employees, and ridiculous fees that correspond to their computing errors.  I even had one of those brilliant employees tell me that I cannot trust what is posted online for my accounts and CC.  Also, although no changes have been made to my checking/savings/cc accounts or direct deposit schedule, they have recently started charging for checking & savings.  An employee explained that although I did qualify for free checking & savings, they have changed their rules and now I don’t.  The last time I had an error on my account I was transfered back and forth between useless departments and was on the phone for over two hours.

  • Jeanne

    I agree,

Wells Fargo is MEAN.  To make a long story short they claimed I was thirty days late with a payment which I have proved over and over that I was not.  They reported me to the credit bureau.  I disputed it with no success.  I reported them to the Better Business Bureau and they reduced my credit from $3000 to $1800 and my cash advance account jumped to 34% interest rate.  They really suck.  I hope they go under soon.  I will never deal with them EVER again.  I am paying off accounts today and then I will just sit on them forever.

Hiral Shah is the worst Wells Fargo agent – DONT go to her EVER!!

She is selfish to the core.  Would call us everyday and also invited us to her home for lunch/dinner when we were going to buy our house.

Once we got our mortgage from her, she lost total interest in us.

We later find out that she gave us a higher rate than the market.  Our broker told us so.

When we wanted to refinance, we called and called.. she would not even respond.  And finally when we got hold of her, she said ‘yesterday’ was a very good day to refinance as the rate was the lowest possible.  I helped a lot of people get the new deal, sorry I missed you guys.  The nerve of her to actually say that, after we had been practically calling her regularly to get a good deal.

Then again a few months later, history repeats itself.  This time she says we lost the best deal of the time by 2 weeks.  Why can’t she just say that I cannot help you with the refinance deals and you are on your own on this.  Instead we trust her and she promises to make sure we dont miss a good deal again, then then stab in the back.

Dont go to her, do your research and read about your agent.  Trust is the most important and she is NOT trustworthy.

    wells fargo IS bad

They’re bad its true, I have not had as bad an experience as the story but because I was almost scammed by a scammer I can’t have anything to do with WF (fine by me), so they don’t exist to me, they took my money though.

Your all a bunch of dumbasses who cant properly manage your money.  Don’t get mad at Wells Fargo for your own incompitence.

  • jessica
    i work at wells fargo

wire transfers are legal documents that have to be filled out and all information has to be provided by the customer. That is why the bank cannot help you. Especially small  banks, usually don’t have routing numbers, those wire transfers have  to be forced through, it is the customers responsiblity to know all the required information for these forms. They can get this information by calling the bank they are trying to send the money to. Don’t rely on your stupid friend to get the information for you they are just as stupid as you are. Second of all, my step dad has been a branch manager for 15 years and I have only had wells fargo my whole life theres nothing wrong with them you all just dont know how to ask questions and dont know how to take care of your accounts. All banks are the same if you overdraw your account they charge you per item, and all the overdraft fees are pretty much the same. At least Wells fargo is open 7 days a week inlcuding all variable holidays. We do have a strict policy for non account holders that is because we care about our customers. If your a non account holder and you cashing a check for more than $500 dollars we are required to obtain 1. A primary form of Identification; A drivers license a state id a pass port a foriegn consuler id etc. and a legal (not expired) secondary form of id, AAA, costco, credit card, work id, etc. a thumb print and we have to call the maker to verify the check if you have a problem with that take it to a check cashing place, take it to your bank, open an account or put a letter on file that says we dont have to verify the  check, you idiots.

  • radhika
    DONT TRUST Hiral Shah

Hiral Shah is their worst possible mortgage associate.  she spends thousands on advertisements and is very sweet talking when it comes to getting new customers.  As soon as you’ve got the mortgage you are scum to her.  Treats you like rubbish. Beware of her.  She has her own website and advertises a lot so you will see her name a lot in the newspapers etc esp for the Indian community in NJ.  BUT BEWARE!!!
she CONNOT be trusted.  She is selfish and cheap.
Gave us a rate higher than the market and has been ripping s off all along.  Typical WF tactics to make money and only to make money.  Screw customers should be their official motto!!

  • wellsfargosucks

These people who comment on here and say wells fargo is overcharging us because of financial irresponsibility are idiots! Wells fargo is a joke! They change your order of debits and deposits and put your deposits as pending even if its freaking cash at 9 am!! Then they overdraft you because of their error and refuse to admit it!! I have not ever been overdrafted in my life and work too damn hard not to watch every penny. The customer service sucks and lie all the time. I would not recommend this bank to anyone ever! If there is ever a class action suit I will definitely join to stop all these erroneous fees

I worked at Wells for almost a year. I think they are a crappy bank too. However, the customer service agents are TRAINED by Wells Fargo. All that we did was our job. Just like everyone else we have a responsibility when were hired on. I for one WOULD NOT have taken the job had I known what Wells Fargo was like. I no longer work there because I cant stand screwing people everyday. Wells Fargo takes very good care of their employees and that is why most of the Call Center reps stay there. There were times when I knew the bank was at fault and not the customer but I couldn’t do anything because it was my job. To blame Wells Fargo great, I do too. But dont blame the CSR’s they are just doing there job. And I agree-Nobody should ever bank at wells fargo!

I bought a bed at matress world and was financed through Wells Fargo Bank.  My husband and I are currently unemployed do to the economy.  I have unfortunately been late on my payments.  We sold some personal things and what I thought I was doing to help myself I paid my loan in advance for a couple of months.  I received my next bill which accrued a late fee and advised that I did not make a payment.  I called them and asked to speak to a manager was told I am not allowed to make advanced payments, they already waived one late fee and would not do it again and that I am to try to get caught up so they don’t turn me into collections.  When asked to speak to managers with Wells Fargo you better have a good reason or you will get hung up on, disconnected accidently on purpose, or transfered to voice mail and no response to message left.  I do not recommend Wells Fargo to anyone and I also recommend take time to read the fine print in any contract you sign.

  • troubleshooter

quick answer for you.  Deterrent is the number one reason I feel.  If you want to stop a bad habit, then charge people a fee that is both reasonable and unreasonable.  That way people try not to overdraft.  2nd answer is, not all customers pay back the negative value in the accounts and eventually are charged off so the bank losses that money.  Third answer is it costs time and money to go through those accounts and decide whether to pay or return and then employees sometimes takes the times to call a handful of clients to help them out either by setting them up with overdraft protection or go through full financial reviews.  Not all employees do this of course.

    Barrowers not getting refinanced

worst bank. Received billions of dollars in aid from the government ie, tax payers and don’t even loan money to hardworking citizens/taxpayers. What the hell was the reason for giving them the money.  No one at Wells Fargo even returns my phone calls. I’ve been lead to believe that I was going to get a loan for over 4 months. Last minute they pulled out stating a discrepency with my paystub!! The same paystub I was granted th initial loan of the property!!! Wells Fargo is the worst bank to do business with.  Don’t lie to the public and lead people to believe that you will loan money. All his bank does is hord money. M. Oviedo, Florida
