BCD Tofu House: The 24 hour Korean Tofu Soup place

1999-03-09

This is not the first place I've had "jige" (jee gay) said very quickly.  I don't know really how to pronounce the food I ate.  I think "jige" just means soup.

Bangkok West

1999-03-09

Best Thai on the west side.  They are on Santa Monica Blvd in the 600 block.  It's probably not "authentic" but it tastes good to me.  Kind of small and the service has been lacking.  I think they need one or two more people but definitely a place to check out.

Bangkok 4

1999-03-09

Bangkok 4 is my favorite Thai restaurant.  It's in the South Coast Plaza Crystal Court behind South Coast Plaza.  It's on the 3rd floor.

I'm not sure if this is real Thai food or upscale Californiaized Thai food but I think is delicious.  It's a little expensive.  The kind of place you'd go on a relatively nice dinner with your girlfriend.  If you just want to pig out go to the Thai BBQ next to Tommy Sushi.

Baja Bud's

1999-03-09

My favorite place for a carnitas(pork) burrito.  Baja Buds is a chain.  If you have a friend how does like Mexican food take them to Baja Buds.  Order a carnitas burrito with guac and mild salsa and have them give it a try.  If they don't like it something's wrong. 😉

Angelo's and Vinci's

1999-03-09

This place used to be more cool.  It used to be located in the X backstage of the Fox Theater in Fullerton.  The Fox theater used to be a stage theater.  At some point it was converted into a movie theater and so the backstage was no longer needed.  A few years ago they moved to a new building next door.   It still has a lot of character inside but the food is really not that good.   Still it's worth going just to see the place once.

Directions: Take Harbor north of the 91 about 3 blocks past Commonwealth.  It's on the right. (see directions for Rutorbegors)

Alberto's

1999-03-09

Alberto's is a small chain of Mexican fast food.  Before they opened in Orange County we used to drive all the way to Oceanside to eat there.  Now there's a few in Orange County.  Something strange happened because many of the Alberto's have changed their names to things like Alberta's and Albertaco's but they seem to have all managed to keep the same taste.

My favorites are (1) 3 rolled tacos with guacamole. (2) two beef tacos with rice and beans.  One thing I don't like there is the chicken burrito.  It's just chicken in a tortilla.  No rice, no beans, no nothing.

One other cool thing: They're open 24 hours.

99ramen

1999-03-09

A great ramen place to try is in Ebisu. I think it's called 99 ramen (or quew jew quew).  To get there, exit Ebisu station through the West exit and then walk to the main road and turn right back under the train tracks.  Continue down that road a couple of blocks until you get to a street that has a pedestrian bridge.  Cross the bridge and continue down the road just a few stores.  You can't miss it as it is always busy.
