Houston's

1999-03-09

Houston's is a national chain.  The have a very small menu.  Their two specialties are (1) Their Spinach Dip which they claim was named one of the 10 best things to eat in L.A.  I agree. (2) Their ribs which they call knife and fork ribs.   These ribs are so tender you usually don't even need the knife.  The meat falls right off the bones with just a light push from your fork.  Yes!

Directions: They are in the same center as FatBurger above.  In LA there is one at the Century City Shopping Center and another in Manhattan Beach on Rosecrans a mile or two west of the 405.

Hof's Hut

1999-03-09

Hof's Hut is a small chain of umm, Coffee shops?  It's actually pretty good and they have really good dessert selections courtesy of their bakery.  My friend Willis loves this place.  He always gets the Rotisserie Chicken.

Directions:The one in Irvine is in the same shopping center as Sagami.

Hodori Restaurant: The 24 hour Korean place

1999-03-09

It's surprising how few 24 places there are on Los Angeles considering it is Los Angeles, one of the biggest cities int he world.  But there are a few.  This is a great one because the food is great and cheap.  It's on the Southwest corner of Vermont and Olympic.  If you go any time around dinner there will be no parking as there are like 20 shops in that strip mall and maybe only 50 spaces.

Try the Tol Suk Bi Bim Bap or the Bulgogi for starters.

Harbor House

1999-03-09

Harbor House is also open 24 hours.  There is one in Dana Point and one in Huntington Harbor both on PCH (Pacific Coast Highway).  They specialize in omelets which are actually not bad.  They have a wide range of other foods too.  They're pretty good especially for a 24 hour place.

Directions: Simplest Directions. Take Warner west from the 405 until you get to PCH.   Like 5 or 6 miles.  Turn right at PCH.  Harbor House is on the left about 1 mile down PCH.  If you see a tall water tower like structure (it's actually a house) you've gone about 100 feet too far.

Genghis Kahn Mongolian BBQ

1999-03-09

If you've never had Mongolian BBQ this is not a bad place to try it.  Basically they have a salad bar type arrangement.  They give you an empty bowl and you fill it as full as you can with stuff from the bar.  They have different shaved meats (i.e. thinly sliced) like turkey, beef, pork etc.  Then they have some veggies like sprouts and cabbage and water chestnuts.  Then they have sauces.  There are instructions for how to mix the sauces above the bar.  You need to put like 5 ladles full plus some BBQ oil.

Filipino place on South

1999-03-09

You're going to have to ask my friend Rose about this one.  It's good, it's authentic, but I haven't the slightest idea what to order nor do I remember exactly how to get there.  Assuming there is only one Tower Records in Cerritos you could look that up because it's in the same shopping center.  One interesting dish is called Chicken with Spoon in Ass.  Just kidding.  They have a dish that is a whole small chicken cooked a really long time so it almost falls apart when you get it.  It's delivered on a plate whole with a spoon sticking out the top which in this case is it's bottom so I decided it should be called "Chicken with Spoon in Ass" 😊
