31 flavors ... of toothpaste!!!

2002-11-10

I saw an ad for this on the train today. It's 31 flavors of toothpaste!. Make sure your breath matches your mood or your outfit 😉

You know it doesn't really seem like that bad on an idea. Why is almost all toothpaste minty? Yes, I know some kids toothpaste is fruity flavored but I think it might actually be nice to pick a different flavor once in a while.

Interesting Cultural Differences

2002-10-29

It's interesting to me the various different manners and no−nos between different cultures and also wondering how they got that way.

For example. Why are chopsticks metal in Korea, often plastic at Chinese restaurants in America and generally wood everywhere else?

Another, in Japan it is normal to lift your plate or bowl to your mouth, particularly your rice bowl and your miso soup bowl. In America we generally do not pick up plates or bowls. In Korea I'm told you NEVER EVER pick up your bowl or plate. Not your rice bowl, not your soup bowl, not anything.

Constant Commercials

2002-10-26

People in the states complain about too much advertising. Well here in Japan it's 10 times what it is anywhere in the states. One of the most visible ways is in the number of giant TV displays showing commercials all the time. There are some at almost every major train station and popular area, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ikebukuro, Ginza, and that doesn't include the thousands of smaller displays at various shops, convenience stores, etc.

Daddy's

2002-10-14

Daddy's is listed as a cafe.  I guess that makes it less formal than a restaurant.  Maybe it was just because it was at night and the lights were dim that it didn't seem to have that cafe ambience so maybe I'll have to try it again in the day considering it's only 5 minutes from where I work. 😊
